When we are face with an unpleasant situation, obstacle or challenge, it’s easy to lash out in anger or frustration. Maybe someone cut you off in traffic, your boss is a jerk or you receive an unfriendly message that makes your blood boil. You want to flip that driver the bird, tell your boss to shove it, and return an equally volatile message back to the sender. Can you relate? While it may seem like a justified reaction at the time, as we are human, there is great power in choosing to respond versus a knee jerk reaction.
We are the authors of our lives and each situation is an opportunity to learn from. Where you may have once reacted in an unpleasant way, we always have an opportunity to choose again going forward.
When facing a challenge, can you pause and ask yourself “What would love do”? Love you ask? It’s an intimate word……a word not nearly expressed as much as it should. Spoken aloud, it can bring a feeling of discomfort, admittedly, sometimes even for me. While writing this blog, the small part of me, that little voice in my head that tries to keep me small, wonders what people will think. As I pondered whether to publish this and asked what would love do, a sense of knowing showed itself. Love is the most powerful force in the universe and if one person chooses love over any negative emotion because of my written words, then I choose to let love lead the way. I choose to show my authentic self.
As we enter a new year, full of new beginnings and possibilities, we have the opportunity to pause and reflect on ourselves and our paths in life. It's a time to dream about the vision that we want to see unfold and set intentions for the life we want to create. There is an unspoken truth that, deep down, we all aspire to have love for ourselves and others and in all areas of our lives. As we connect with family, friends and strangers on the street in the coming days, what would love do? The answer may cause you to alter the way we respond and relate to people and circumstances. This is so important, especially now.
When you find yourself trying to make a decision or in a challenging situation, stop and ask yourself, “What would love do?” Get quiet and see what shows up for you. This new deepened awareness of what you could do will allow you to take loving actions based on your answer to this powerful inquiry. Lean into love. If you act based on a loving intention, you can never go wrong.
If we all acted from a place of love, kindness and compassion, we could truly transform, not only our lives, but the world.
Let LOVE lead the way!
