“I Hope You Dance”. Have you ever heard the lyrics of the song by Lee Ann Womack?
“I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance”
As parents, we want only the best for our children. We want their unequivocal happiness and success. How many times have you heard another parent say that they want for their children things that they never had. To have experiences that they never had. When did we tell ourselves that at a certain point or a certain age that the things that we hoped for would no longer happen? What limiting beliefs do we tell ourselves around our hopes and dreams so that we inherently believe that they are too far out of reach?
We tell our kids to dream big and shoot for the stars. We tell them to never stop believing that it will happen and to never quit when the going gets tough. Yet we quit. We stop believing that those dreams will ever be reached. We make excuses on why we can no longer pursue those passions - whether it be work, family, other commitments, or that big F word called FEAR. We hide behind our own shadows. We are our biggest hypocrite.
"You can look back and say you wish, or you can look back and say you did." ~ Deborah Cherrey
If a good friend approached you and said that they wanted to realize one of their dreams - whatever that might be - would you support them in their endeavour? Of course you would. In a lot of aspects, we are a cheerleader for so many other people in our lives. When will you choose to be your very own cheerleader? If you can’t wholeheartedly believe in your own passions, beliefs, and dreams, no one is going to realize them for you.
You are the only thing that holds yourself back from unlimited potential. You are the only one holding yourself from your dreams. This expansive Universe is waiting for you to claim all that is yours.
We always have a choice. When doubt echoes in your mind and tells you that it’s just not possible, choose again. Just like the song says, “Never lose your sense of wonder”. Whether it’s taking a class, launching a business, or trying a new hobby, take the leap. You can always look back and say you wish, or you can look back and say you did.
